Basic Featherweight Maintenance
In this hands-on workshop participants will learn to perform basic Singer Featherweight maintenance on their own Singer Featherweight 221 machines. We will explore regular machine maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting and correcting stitch problems, electrical wiring, foot controller, electric lamp and motor issues, machine and hook timing, upper and lower thread tension cleaning and adjustiments, drive belt adjustment/replacement, stop motion issues, deep cleaning and improving and protecting your sewing machine's finish.
The instructors are Terry Manning and Cheryl Degan. Terry is a local sewing machine repair legend and Cheryl is an enthusiastic Featherweight collector and hobbiest.

Your required supplies fee includes:
A tube of motor lubricant, Tri flow oil, gear cleaning brush, long q-tips, long swabs with foam tips, plastic cups, Goop for cleaning, acid brush, metal polish, Howard's Feed and Wax with orange oil, 8" x 8" Eaglette microfiber polishing cloth, 8"x8" miner polishing cloth and disposable shop towels.
You will need to bring:
Your own vintage Singer Featherweight 221 and foot pedal controller. If your machine has broken or missing parts please bring your machine and parts to the workshop.
Two spools of contrasting cotton thread that you use for your sewing. 40-50 weight are fine.
Two pieces of 12" x 12" fabric for test sewing.
A small flashlight or headlamp with fresh batteries.
A pair of sewing scissors.
A medium sized paint brush for cleaning.
Two slotted screwdrivers: a small screwdriver measuring 3/32 (2.0 mm) at the tip and a medium screwdriver that is around 3/16 (5mm) at the tip. The two vintage screwdrivers that came with your Featherweight are perfect. If you don't have the vintage ones bring modern screwdrivers with these tip sizes.
Two very old bath towels that you don't mind getting ruined.
Some pieces of old tee shirts for cleaning machines.
