Let's Make an Asymmetrical Cloth Vessel/Vase, taught by Marie Welsch

This fun class takes the care of the guesswork needed to make a three dimensional project (inspired by a Quilting Arts Show Guest Artist Mary McCauley (http://www.mccauleyart.com/about.html). Bring a fat quarter sandwich – made with your favorite decorative quilting fabrics, and you will leave with a three-dimensional vessel.  All skill levels.

Size of Finished Project: Approximately 8 inches high x 5 inch wide x 5 inches deep

Supply List:

  • Sewing Machine, extra needles, able to do a zigzag stitch
  • Basic Supplies:  at least two pair of scissors (one for paper and one for fabric), seam ripper, pins, note paper, pencil, a colored pencil to trace around a pattern onto your fabric and  that will show up for you to cut by; a stylus to help push your fabric pieces close to themselves and the needle
  • Thread in one color to match your chosen fabrics, fill one bobbin to match for constructing the vessel
  • Optional: Thread in contrasting color with matching bobbin to decorate the prepared surfaces (to be completed after the pattern is drawn on the fabric). If you have a highly patterned fabric, this may not be needed.
  • Fat quarter sandwich: two fat quarters fused together with a light interfacing, (use any fancy decorative quilting fabrics -print, batik, solids, whatever you like) (Note: lightweight fusible can be any brand you have handy). I will have some MistyFuse with me for purchase if you can't find some in your stash or don't want to buy some ($1.00 each). (I will have two irons and boards handy to iron as needed.)
  • Other items: a sharpie to trace and write on the provided items (card stock pattern and blue painter's tape)
