Free Motion Quilting for the First Time

This 3-hour workshop is for participants comfortable and confident in using their sewing machine.  The class will provide guided demonstrations and practice sessions in free motion quilting - a popular way to put quilt layers (top, batting and backing) together with the sewing machine.

AAQG member Karen Alexander will teach the class.  Karen recently retired from her 17-year tenure managing the SVP (Singer Viking Pfaff) Worldwide's Gallery Store at the Arbor Walk in Austin where she taught sewing and quilting to thousands.

Class Fee:  $ FREE

You will need to bring:

Sewing Machine with all accessories, power cord, and foot control.  You need a machine that can drop the feed dogs (teeth) or has a feed dog cover and a Darning or Quilting presser foot.  Consult your manual and if you're unsure whether or not your machine has these features, email giftofquilting@aaqg.com with questions.

Basic Sewing Supplies - scissors, machine needles, thread, seam ripper.

Extended or wide sewing table, if your machine has one as it will make the process easier.

At least TWO quilt "sandwiches" to work with: Four 18-to-20-inch squares of good quality cotton quilting fabric and two pieces of quilt batting. A "fat quarter" is the perfect size. Solid fabric is best, although a print is OK.
