Natalya Khorover's Graffiti Lab, a sustainable mixed media workshop

Explore the artistry of urban graffiti and wordplay. A few trips to the supermarket will provide you with a diverse collection of fonts in different styles, sizes and colors from single-use plastic product packaging and bags. This is perfect fodder for graffiti and letter inspired art.  Create puns, superlatives, proverbs and haikus you’d like to immortalize forever.  (It is plastic after all, so it’ll last!)  Add machine stitching and hand stitching and end up with a fun and striking new piece of art.

Supply list

  • a collection of soft single-use plastic with lots of lettering and graphics (various colors, sizes, thicknesses and patterns; from bags to bulk item wrapping to supermarket packaging)
  • look for plastic with lettering and graphics, we’ll need all the letters you can find!
  • sewing machine (no need for special needles)
  • sharp paper scissors
  • sharp embroidery scissors
  • glue stick
  • various sewing machine and hand stitching threads
  • needles for hand stitching (thimble if used)
  • pointy tweezers
  • base material. Natalya's preferred material is Pellon 70 Peltex Ultra Firm Sew-In Interfacing. It is 20” wide. It can be purchased at JoAnn Fabrics or maybe your local quilt store. A similar sturdy interfacing is acceptable.

Registration Opens: Monday, August 15, 2022
