Special Exhibits

Lady of the Lakes Bee was formed in Lakeway, TX in 1997 as a subgroup of the Austin Area Quilt Guild. The name is from a 19th century quilt block “Lady of the Lake” which symbolizes a sailboat surrounded by waves.

Annette Kennedy Fiber Art - Annette has been creating pictorial art quilts since 2003 and this exhibit reflects that journey and her 19 years of living in Colorado.  Fused applique is her chosen construction technique, which allows for easy freedom of shape and detail.  She enhances her images with transparent and opaque textile paints to add small details, shadows and highlights to create visual depth.  Her pieces explore the play of light, line, color, form and texture.  You’ll enjoy the colorfulness of her work and her interpretation of nature and landscape. Stop by to see her quilts.

Three Hands Round: Create, Edit, Stitch, Repeat - Three Hands Round is a showcase of the work of Mary Ann Nailos, Amy C. Nelson, and Sherri Lipman McCauley.  One experiment. Three friends. Three different artistic styles. Three sets of hands modifying each piece. In a creative departure from our normal method of work, we challenged each other to create the start of an art quilt, hand it to another member for modification, pass it to the third person, and back to the original member for finishing touches.

What emerged from this collaboration was surprising! Without planning, or consulting each other, each member responded to the work in front of them.  Common elements and themes were revealed: Circular and triangular shapes, bright colors, hand embroidery and applique. The resulting pieces present as a cohesive illustration.

This exhibition includes the twelve pieces created in this style, each 36” H x 24” W.  Additional pieces include abstract textile pieces created independently.
