Wearable Arts Challenge

The theme for the 2010 Wearable Arts challenge is "Text-Tiled Re-Wearables".

We are combining the "old" with the "new".

We build on the familiar and traditional ideas of wearables as we step into the vernacular of today by dressing the garments with TEXT which will allow us to add another dimension of art and expression.

Here are the basic rules :

1) Your item must have TEXT: : letters or numbers. Any amount is ok, as long as it is visibly a part of the garment. Text in any language is accepted. The lettering may already exist in the fabric, or you may add it with stamping, painting, any way you like.

2) 25% must be quilted:: For wearable art garments, "quilted" means a minimum of two layers but more is ok. If design work is done just on one layer then that is considered embroidery and will not qualify as quilting, but to do design work through 2 layers is acceptable.

3) 25% of your garment must be recycled: : We are asking that you make 25% of your garment from recycled fiber. This can be the visual inspiration for your whole item, or it can be the lining or base. This can be a garment that has hung unworn in your closet for years or you may purchase it from a resale shop. Obviously we cannot look at your entry and tell what was recycled - just do it and then you can tell us in your written description.

For more info please email the Wearables Challenge coordinator.
