Soft Sculpture Special Exhibit
Hello, Dollies!

Exciting news for cloth doll makers! For the first time, soft-sculpted figures will be featured in a non- judged Special Exhibit at the 2010 quilt show in September. Voting for favorites will be via Viewer’s Choice. The exhibit will highlight yet another skill of our members, and many hundreds of viewers will see and enjoy your latest handiwork. So, dig around in your stash and UFO (UnFinished Objects) basket, bring out those soft doll body parts, put them together, dress your creation in a smashing costume, and enter. Even if you have never made a cloth doll before, give it a try.

The rules are simple:

  • Figure(s) must be at least 95% cloth; no facial masks or other body parts made of non-cloth (Fimo, Sculpy, PaperClay, etc.) materials, although accessories may be so constructed.
  • Figure(s) must be self-supporting. Props such as chairs, original “stage settings” or commercial doll stands will be allowed.
  • All figure(s) entered must be the work of the artists(s); no commercial dolls allowed. Figure(s) created by a group are encouraged.
  • Signage for the figure(s) should indicate the original source (pattern, kit, original design) and/or the inspiration for the work, as well as a short listing of any unusual techniques used (hand-dyed fabric, beading, etc.)
  • Your figure(s) will be insured as part of the AAQG show coverage, so be sure to fill out the insurance space on your entry form.
Help is on the way........

Wondering what to do about those “blown-out” fingers on your doll? How firm to stuff? The best “stuff” to use for stuffing?

Come to the Dollmaking Clinic on June 17 at the Quilt Store (2700 W. Anderson Lane) from 6 – 8 p.m. This is NOT a doll class! Repeat – not a doll class but a clinic. Bring your questions and problems and we will answer them to the best of our ability.

In the meantime, here are some websites for you to explore for doll patterns and ideas. It is enlightening to browse the pictures and galleries for ideas on dolls, costuming, hair, and props.
