Raffle Quilt Construction Committee

Duties
  • Plan the quilt.
    • help develop written concept of quilt, along with Show Chairs
    • work with Show Chairs on design, color, and fabric
    • prepare scale drawing of quilt and/or mockup showing color and fabrics
    • obtain copyright permission(s) when needed
    • decide on types of kits and skill levels for members (approx 80-100)
    • develop budget for materials and labor (such as paid quilting)
    • review intermediate and final designs, budget with Show Chairs
  • Construct the quilt.
    • calculate fabric yardage, purchase fabric, wash fabric
    • prepare patterns and instructions for block kits for members
    • make sample blocks &/or recruit others to test the kits
    • prepare kits, distribute kits, collect/return kit deposits, collect completed kits
    • keep records of block makers, kit deposits, location of blocks in kits
    • inspect completed kit blocks for good quality construction
    • construct additional quilt top elements such as medallion or borders
    • assemble quilt top
    • prepare the quilt for quilting, eg mark, baste as required
    • quilt the top, or arrange for it to be quilted for pay and coordinate payment
    • bind the quilt, add hanging sleeve, and label the quilt
  • Prepare quilt for ticket sales and promotions.
    • photograph quilt top for use on posters and in raffle ticket sales packets
    • forward negatives to Show Chairs &/or Raffle Ticket Sales Coordinator
    • unveil quilt top to membership by December meeting prior to Quilt Show
    • make travel/storage bag for quilt
    • prepare or provide information for a schematic drawing of quilt for Show Guide and for Show Printed Program, showing design and who made which block
  • Design and coordinate special-purpose small quilts.
    • one or more quilts for high ticket sales prizes
    • one or more quilts for Silent Auction
    • make sure all members' blocks are used in something.
  • Report on activities.
    • submit expenses to Quilt Show Treasurer
    • turn in list of all volunteers who helped with quilt to Volunteer Coordinator
    • write final report for Show Chairs, including recommendations for next show
    • update committee notebook
