100. Pieced, Large
200. Pieced, Small
Quilts that are 51% or more pieced using patterns and inspiration from existing quilt history and/or expand on patterns to create altered designs.
300. Appliqué, All Sizes
Quilts that are 51% or more appliquéd and contain fabric designs cut out of one cloth and stitched or otherwise applied to the surface of another fabric
400. Art Quilt, All Sizes
Quilts of original design made with artistic intent that use color, design, and construction techniques to create a work that expands beyond traditional quilts. An original work is composed first-hand-a fresh design or style without copying the works of others.
500. Miniature -- Refer to size classification
A quilt that is scaled down (miniaturized) and bound; one which represents a full-sized quilt, If blocks are used, maximum block size is 5 inches. Includes all techniques.
600. Novice -- All sizes
This category is created for quiltmakers to exhibit in a less competitive atmosphere; applies only to first three quilts eligible to be shown. Maker may wish quilt(s) to go in other applicable category (categories).
700. Junior Member’s Quilts -- All sizes
To qualify, the junior member must be 18n years of age or younger. All quilts entered in this category will be given a ribbon. Quilts eligible to be entered in this category may instead be entered in any of the categories appropriate for the quilt. Quilts in the Junior category are not judged. Quilts entered by Junior members in the Junior category shall be primarily the work of the entrant, but assistance by an adult is acceptable without requiring the quilt to be entered in the Group or 2-Person categories.
800. Two-Person Quilt -- All sizes
A quilt on which two people have worked, at least one of whom is an AAQG member.
900. Group Quilt -- All sizes
A quilt on which three or more people have worked, at least one of whom is an AAQG member. Bee quilts go in this category unless they are professionally quilted, in which case they must be entered in the Professionally Quilted category
1000. Other Techniques -- All sizes
Quilts that do not fit into other defined categories, including embroidered, crazy, yo-yo, cathedral window, tied, redwork, etc.
1100. Wearable Arts -- All sizes of wearable arts according to the specific rules of the current quilt show.
At least 50% of the garment must be quilted either by hand or by machine. Each current show will establish specific entry rules. Entries must conform to these rules to be eligible for entry.
1200. Fine Hand Quilting -- All sizes of quilts
entered for the quality of the quilting stitches and for quilting design. All entries are to be made by one member.
1300. Professionally Quilted Quilt -- All sizes of quilts
that have been made by an AAQG member and quilted by hand or machine by another person(s) for remuneration (fee, goods, services). No more than two quilts per person. Any quilt which has been quilted for remuneration must be entered in this category.
1400. Special Occasion Quilt -- All sizes
Such as commemorative, High School or College graduation, wedding, and baby quilts, all sizes, all techniques, made by one individual.
1500. Kit, Calendar, Block-of-Month and Pre-Stamped quilts. All sizes, made by one individual.
Kit and Block-of-the-Month quilts are composed of patterns, fabrics, and quilting designs packaged as a unit for retail sale. This includes pre-printed whole cloth quilts.

Entry Size Classification

Large Quilt:
Length plus width must be no less than 120 inches, not to exceed 240 inches.
Small Quilt:
Length plus width must be at least 30 inches, but less than 120 inches.
Miniature:
Length plus width must be no more than 48 inches; if blocks are used, maximum block size is 5 inches.
