National Quilting Day
National Quilting Day is held on the third Saturday in March. This is an annual opportunity for the guild to share its love of quilting throughout the community. AAQG plans for National Quilting Day are announced in January of each year.
2005
National Quilting Day 2005 was observed with a "Home Front Sew-in" on March 5 at the Millwood Library to benefit the Operation Homefront Quilt Project. A great big thank you to those who came prepared to sew--and finished tops--or took some home with you to finish and quilt. Also, a special thank you to CiCi's Pizza at Palmer and McNeil. They donated all the pizza we could eat! There will be blocks and some additional fabrics at the April meeting for those of you who still want to make a quilt for the families of our fallen heroes. Each quilt will be labeled with the following: “With gratefulness for your loved one’s ultimate sacrifice and devotion to freedom, Operation Homefront Quilts would like to present this memorial quilt.” We plan to mail all the finished quilts after the May meeting, so make finishing your quilts a priority!
2003
National Quilting Day 2003 was held this year at Pioneer Farm. We were blessed with a non-rainy, mild, sunny afternoon and many of our members joined in the fun at the quilting frame. Spotted honing their quilting skills in period costumes were Karen Reeder, Diane Sehorne, Carol McKenzie, Danni Dankworth, Betty Shannon, Rose Martine, Jessie Shumake, Dorothy Chesney and others as well as Andi Horton, Beverly Copher, Nola Ray, and Mary Lorenz helping with bed turnings at the Bell House. We had many people at the bed turnings and several expressed interest in the guild!
Quilting continues to be a great source of interest and fascination for the public and our presence at events like this continue to bring attention to the community about quilting and our guild. Thank you one and all for your help. It was a wonderful day and great success.
Remember we only have 2 more months of quilting at Pioneer Farm before we take our summer break: April 12 and May 10. Please come on down to the farm and quilt!
2002
In a first of it's kind event for the guild and the Texas Memorial Museum of Science and History, an exhibit of 46 quilts from the central Texas area were exhibited in the great hall of the Texas Memorial Museum from March 15 - 17, 2002. As a part of National Quilting Day activities, the guild sponsored hands on workshops that yielded 20 baby quilts for the Baby Bundles project, an outreach project for the guild.
