How Do I Make A Baby Bundle?

The size for each completed quilt is a minimum of 40x48 inches and a maximum of 42 x 48 inches. The quilts can be as fancy or simple as you wish, but please use 100% cotton that has been washed. Layouts and quantities are given below. You need 1.5 yards for backing. One queen-size batting can be cut to make four baby quilts. If you get strips in your baby bundle kit from the guild, don't cut them into blocks; you won't have enough fabric!     Directions in Printable Format

For a 42 x 48-inch quilt, you will need:

  • 56 6.5-inch squares set 7 blocks across and 8 down
or 8 strips cut 6.5 inches wide, selvage to selvage
Using two contrasting fabrics for the top, you will need a generous 3/4 yard of each fabric. Using three contrasting fabrics, you will need a 1/2 yard of each of the three fabrics.

For a 40 x 48-inch quilt, you will need:

  • 30 8.5-inch squares set 5 blocks across and 6 down
or 6 strips cut 8.5 inches wide, selvage to selvage
Using two contrasting fabrics for the top, you will need a generous 3/4 yard of each fabric. Using three contrasting fabrics, you will need a 1/2 yard of each of the three fabrics.

To envelope a quilt, lay the batting down on a flat surface. Lay the backing right side up, and then the quilt top right side down. Stitch around the quilt top edge, leaving an 8-inch opening. Trim the edges and clip the corners, then turn inside out. Stitch the opening closed, tie every six inches or stitch as desired.
