AAQG Grant Program Rules

Mission

Endowed by the Austin Area Quilt Guild to encourage the pursuit of education in the study of textiles and to recognize the importance of quilting in today's society as an art form, as an instrument of healing, as part of our legacy, and as a common thread which binds us all in friendship.

This grant is provided to AAQG members who have a particular goal, workshop or project in mind and would appreciate some financial help. The AAQG board allocates an amount to be determined annually in special projects funds for grants to be awarded to individuals, groups of members or bees to pursue exploration and excellence in the art of quilting. The grants may be used to cover expenses such as fees, registration, tuition, travel, lodging, meals, materials, books, and notions. A minimum of four grants will be awarded annually, each not to exceed $500.

Purpose of the Grant Program

o To allow AAQG members to benefit from their own fundraising efforts and generous support.
o To provide educational opportunities that expand, extend and enrich the entire quilting community.
o To share skills, techniques and information with all members of AAQG.
o To create a symbiotic relationship between AAQG and its members where the guild works for its members as well as the members working for the guild.

Eligibility

o An applicant must be a member of AAQG in good standing for the previous two years immediately preceding the scholarship deadline.
o An applicant must show evidence of an interest in continuing to improve and innovate in the field of quilt design, construction, history or technique.
o Financial need will not be a criterion for selection.
o Grant funds may be used for conferences, workshops, symposia, or self-study.
o Recipient must be willing and able to share with AAQG the new skills, techniques, or information that resulted from the grant. This sharing may be in the form of a presentation, written report, show and tell, a workshop or other process that disseminates the information to the guild members.
o Recipient must submit in writing a final report of project and expenses by March 1 of the following year for winter grants and Sept. 1 of the following year for summer grants.
o Grant recipients are ineligible to reapply for grants for three years. Grant committee members are ineligible for grants while serving on the committee.
