Baby Bundles

What is a Baby Bundle?

Baby Bundles is one of several community service projects the guild sponsors. Last year we made 500 quilts for the program that benefits mothers and children in the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services well-baby programs. The program participants get lots of items in their bundles (including one of our quilts) as incentives to fulfill pre- and postnatal exams, and inoculations for their children. Although we donated 500 quilts last year, the program can use as many as we can make.
What Can Members Do?
Even if you can't make it to the sew-in, you can help. We ask every guild member to make a Baby Bundle quilt during the month of his or her birthday. Be sure to show your quilt during Show & Tell. You can make a quilt from your own fabric stash or take a kit and batting available at the Baby Bundles table at guild meetings. Members who make contributions to the program get stars to wear on their nametags. Remember, this is a year-round project. There are no deadlines on the kits so keep working.
What Can Members Bring To The Sew-In?
  • Standard hand sewing kit (scissors, standard sewing needles if you plan to sew on labels; large-eyed embroidery or crewel needles if you plan to tie)
  • Embroidery thread-if you have some you can donate, please bring it
  • Fabrics you want to donate that are appropriate for babies
  • Your completed quilt or quilt top if you took a kit home
  • For those who sign up to machine sew, bring your sewing machine with a walking foot if you want to help envelope quilts, or regular foot if you'll be sewing on labels or making tops
